The one person that took little more attention than the Oil investments and the rising towers in Arabian horizon was Octavia Nasr, little I did realize of this lady until I met her at the Sharjah International Book fair, well at small gathering where she had come to launch or rather introduce her consulting company which has unique strategy or aim to ‘Bridge different medias’ on to a platform or so, that’s nice I felt for it’s the need of the time to have a common ground where by people get exposed to different types of media which can be used to communicate and ‘shoot’ our thought to rest of the world or get from them.
Any way what kicked my interest was in her, was during and after the Question and answer section, that’s where people did not realize or had not IDEA why they were there.
It was not a political speech session, neither it was a press release of the incident what happen to her as CNN journalist, it was simple intro session at World Book fair.
Series of Questions started to fly regarding her past incident and the former employer, but like any normal international correspondence and a journalist, there are certain rules and regulations in media or say in most of the Job in MNC, which binds you form speaking more then required to ‘outside media’ which can endanger the corporate image. She did maintain her dignity being diplomat, for which I respect and she did not go full gun firing related to past, which afcourse she repeatedly told, its there all in media and online if one want they can simply find it..
What strike me was the people who were asking her, one was a Emirati gentleman, who insisted to know the weather CNN was biased or neutral media when it comes to ARAB issue, and she being the focal point, to which she brushed saying, there is no issue what so ever and that all info was available online, if needed and was evident for now..
Another lady of (ARAB national from accent) did ask similar Question with a comment saying she was disappointed that Octavia did not give much focus to the fact that CNN did not give Arabs the due attention and that this TOPIC was not being Discussed openly , but rather brushed diplomatically, which as per my opinion was what any one would do. Even the people asking the Question will do if they were sitting in the chair of Octavia, if time was their side.. I am sure…
The reason to write this article is that I found that generally the Arab state suffers from a low complex in their mind, and since they are not represented so good in international media also ways linked to terror and finding terror.
Their leader just for go for buyout Business or sport tours, yet the status of these nations is so down culturally, morally , in education and social reforms that they hhave hardly any hope in distant future for any peace in Mediterranean or middle east Arab states.
Unity and brotherhood is in the name sake, the wealth defines the who owns who and what in whose place. If given a chance they would take on each other, on petty things.
This lady suddenly had come to international attention with her voice on a social media in which she just expressed her view. She did no crime, she did what even Christian Arabs in Lebanon and Syria did, expressing a symbolic sadness over the demise of Hezbollah’s spiritual leader who did not have any role in the violence that used to be expressed by the Hezbollah on forefront.
In general perspective, these Arab nations does suffer much form social and moral inequality too, in their society the woman are given a very limited roles to play on national/internationsl level, the role is well crafted and arranged as per the status of the tribes. There is need for greater change is they expect something more from a woman like Octavia.
In Octavia case, When that found an ordinary woman with extra ordinary position in media and that too on their favorite subject that is “ west is hunting Arabs’ they get excited and expect her to Deliver the ‘Presidential speeches where ever she goes, with a fire branding at CNN and western medias. I think this assumptions is utter nonsense and it requires ‘ reconstruction of Arab thought and their social equalities
Like Octavia pointed its time the Parents wake up and up bring their child with broad mindedness, accept the current reality and teach right wisdom. Create respect for your neighbor weather he/she belongs to west or east, or white or black is Arab or Ajam..
Basically this message is more for Arab Muslim than other Arabs belonging to other religions. Elevate the status of woman to the reality of what the Islam has really given, hiding it will only harm,
They should remember the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) said "Neighbors are of three kinds;"
That one who has one right upon you; That one who has two rights upon you; That one who has three rights upon you.
The neighbor who has three rights upon you is the one who is also a Muslim and a relative. The neighbor who has two rights upon you is the one who is either a non-Muslim relative or a non-relative Muslim. The neighbor who has one right upon you is neither a Muslim nor a relative. Still he has got all the claims of neighborhood rights upon you.
We have left our spiritual aspect of religion and is holding on to the outer cover that si pealing off due to the weight of our wrong intentions and acts.
